Susanna Hietala was born in a small village, North Finland. Maybe it was already then, when she was filled up with sentimental and solitary mood and now have those influences in her music. She started to take piano lessons at the age of four and continued her classical piano up till adulthood. While playing classical piano, she fell in love with jazz and world music. In 1997, she received a scholarship to study jazz singing in Berklee College of Music, Boston. She has also studied at Sibelius Academy jazz -department, Helsinki.

Susanna Hietala has been performing and giving concerts in festivals in Finland and abroad, more than 20 countries. She gained international attention after winning the second prize in the Montreux Jazz Festival "Shure Jazz Voice Competition" in 2003.

Besides being a jazz singer, she has worked as a freelance musician in studios, TV-shows and concerts both as a singer and a keyboardist. She is also a founding member of a famous a cappella group called Club For Five.

Susanna released her first solo-ep in February, 2009 and now the latest release will be her first solo -album “Fly Away” on August, 2010.
